XLE 6 98 Camry Problem

I’ve just purchased a new 98 XLE V6 Camry and want to share a problem.  I
have 500 miles on it.  I’ve noticed that while driving between 40 – 55
MPH the engine hesitates and the RPM drops.  Have any of you  experienced
a similar trouble?  I’m scheduled for service tomorrow but would like to
hear your feedback. P.S. – Yes, the overdrive is on!

    1. Is the air conditioning on?

    2. Are you slightly letting off the accelerator when this happens?

I have the 97 LE, and at these top gear speeds, when I let off the
throttle, there is a definite feeling of the engine cutting out. I am
told that to conserve fuel, when you let off at these speeds the fuel
injectors close off all fuel. So throttle-wise, its accelerate or
    decelerate, nothing in the middle.

    Maybe Rick will chime in.

    just mikee.

    Hi Mikee.
What an idiot for buying a Toyota. Everyone with the exception of *YOU*
knew it was a lousy choice.
    My two cents.
    Yo Bro.

I’m his brother—just having a little fun at his expense.

Is the torque converter on your transmission simply going into its
lock-up mode, which is normal?  You might try taking the transmission out
of overdrive and see if the car still behaves the same way.
My Camry torque converter locks up at speedsyou’re talking about, and
    the RPM drops accordingly.
