Supra TT or C5 Corvette?

I’m looking to buy (new) either of these two wonderful machines. I’ve seen the
numbers and read reviews, but I’m looking for owner experiences both good and
bad.

Any help will be appreciatted!

I realize that you want owner experiences but I wanted
to give my $.02 to this thread.

The Supra is an amazing automobile. With all that it does for
what it costs is amazing. But I sincerely believe that the
C5 is the better car. My only concern is the reliability of
the vehicle. But as you probably have read, the C5 has better structural
integrity than a SL Mercedes. All things being
equal, there will be less to go wrong in a C5 than the Supra
(turbo etc). Plus, the C5 more than held its own against the
Porsches, Ferraris, and NSXs of the world. Too bad the
Supra wasn’t included so we would have a direct comparison
    for us to consider.

    Cheers

I can speak as an owner of a 97 C5.  Its the most fun, responsive and
comfortable car I have ever had.  Get the sport seats but beyond that it
doesn’t matter.  6 speed or automatic it’s a great car and the price is low
    relative to what you get.

The Corvette has a long standing, documented history of being among
the least reliable vehicles GM makes – and that’s very much like being
the worst of the worst.  GM’s own internal surveys show build quality
at the Corvette plant to be the lowest in their system.  Is there a
    pattern here?

I’ve driven the C5 – it’s an improvement over the old one, but again,
that’s damning it with faint praise.  It’s looks and drives like a GM
product – orange peel in the paint, tacky looking plastic all over the
interior, numb steering, flimsy seats, and even new, it creaks.  Does
this sound like a $40,000 sports car?

The Supra, on the other hand, is built by a company that is widely
acknowledged as building the highest quality vehicles IN THE WORLD.
Granted that the Corvette is better looking, but I’m betting that
20,000 miles from now, when the Vette is showing fading paint, cracked
and worn leather, and a variety of body noises, the Supra owner will
feel very secure in his choice.

Just an update after visiting dealerships….

There was a TT Supra w/auto on the lot so I actually got to drive it! An
incredibly smooth ride and deceptive acceleration.
My current car is a 1988 Mustang GT that has more modifications than I care to
list. It’s also an auto and it is a 6.0 second car. I’ve had it on a road
course (Watkins Glen NY) I can tell you it handles much better than stock. My
point here is that I know what it’s like to drive a car with guts and handling.

My eyes were opened by the ride of the Supra! I know this car can put my GT on
the trailer on a road course, and it didn’t beat me up! My wife (along for the
ride) assured me that the passenger side accel was "just as scary as the
    Mustang".
The most impressive thing was that when we got back to the dealership, we
discovered we were riding in a USED 1994 model w/35K on it!
I think Toyota reliability will not be an issue. Granted it’s 1 car out of X,
    but….
Of course the salesman tried to shove it down my throat, telling me that they
don’t come w/auto anymore (lie) and that even if I ordered one I might not get
    what I want.

The Chevy dealership was an interesting experience. For $40K they want you to
plop down 2K to place an order for a 1999 model that they don’t have prices on
yet! Forget about taking a test drive… Although the salesman did suggest one
of those Rent-A-Vette places in Scottsdale (AZ, I’ve moved). There was a sold
Vette in the showroom, man, they are HUGE! Sitting in it, one really gets a
feel for all thos comments from the reviews. It is hard to tell where this car
ends. I realize I didn’t drive it, but I don’t think I would feel comfortable
pushing this car. Ergonomically, the Supra *felt* better as well.

All in all I’m leaning towards the Supra, but I’d still like some feedback from
    owner’s.
