what the heck is a V-4, surely not an 3SFE or 5SFE.
The V-6 in the camry has been trouble free.

The problem Toyota has been having is with the V-6 truck engines not the
car engines.
Both engines are very reliable. The 4 cylinder may be more economical in
the long run because is has fewer parts and is easier to work on.
Jayman.
p.s. before buying a used car take it to a trusted technician to have it
checked over. Even the best cars break-down if not maintained.

The last V-4 I remember was the mid-60s Ford Corsair in the UK.

My 96 T100 blew the head gasket at 17K.
If the dealer has it in stock, it can be fixed in a couple of days.
(unless you overheated the engine and ruined the short block too)
IF this happens to you, try and take it to the dealer that does the most
volume business or call around to see if they have the kit in stock,
otherwise, you may be waiting around a while..I just heard of someone who
waited 2 MONTHS for their 96 4-Runner.
My local dealer was going to keep me hanging for a month or so, I found
another dealer who had the kit in stock and yanked my truck away from the
first dealer and got it fixed pronto.
The gasket availability problem seems to be going away as the supplier has
geared up to make a bunch of them.
The problem was caused by a combination of a sometimes faulty part, and a
machine that over-tighteded the bolts.

I have the T100 V6 with 28,000 miles on it and no problems yet. The only
complaint I have against the T100 is the "light in the rear" syndrome. I
always feel a little uneasy on streets that are slick with oil or rain. The
truck has almost all of it’s weight in the front and it makes life
interesting when you need to stop in a hurry!

Check carefully. I have a T100 that blew at 14K. I would not have
found the leak if I had not been stuck in deep snow during a killer
blizzard in Tahoe. While digging out, I noticed pink fluid around my
splash gaurd. After digging out, two of us examined the engine and
underneath the truck and could find nothing. My fluid level was not
low. After returning home, I still took the truck into Toyota and was
informed of the problem. It took several weeks to fix.
