I have a friend with a 90 4runner. He says that the dealer will replace the
engine or rebuild it under warranty because of the headgasket problem. I
thought this was for the 91-92 models
I have a 94 4Runner V6, got a notice from Toyota about 4 months ago that my
head gasket needed replaced. All work was no charge at my local dealer.
Included free rental for two days and…..they even washed my 4Runner!

Does anyone know where the fuel filter is on a ’90 Toyota 4×4 p/u
with the 22RE motor? It’s canister shaped, like a small coffee can or
a large oil filter and I was told it’s on the frame…but where? I’ve
searched EVERYWHERE I can think of and I still cannot find it!
Does anyone know where it is…please?
(Save my sanity!)
Thanks,
Scott

I have an ’89, and if it’s the same, it’s mounted on the engine block passenger
side down low. I got to it by jacking, cutting the wheel and lifting the mud
flap at the interior of the fender. It was kind a like one of those twisted-up
iron tavern puzzle things getting it out, but it worked.
I needed to replace the leads on my AE92 Corolla engine.
A set of ‘generic’ leads in New Zealand costs around NZ$30.00 (US$15.00).
The ‘generic’ leads work fine but the AE92 leads have a rubber cap moulded
into them that close over the plug shaft to seal it. I went to Toyota
Genuine Parts dealer who quoted me a price of NZ$250.00 (US$130.00) for a
set of four leads.
Shocked at the price, I asked if there was any advantage in using the
Toyota leads over ‘generic’ leads. I was told ‘No. It just has the rubber
thingy on the end.’.
I didn’t buy the leads. I will try to find some second hand ones at a
wrecker or make my own ‘rubber thingy’ to seal the plug shaft.
Why do Toyota charge their customers and car owners over eight times as
much for leads that have no real advantage except for a bit of extra
rubber? Is this the same in other countries?
