The most senior judge in England yesterday gave his blessing to the use
of sharia law to resolve disputes among Muslims.
Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips said that Islamic legal principles
could be employed to deal with family and marital arguments and to
regulate finance.
He declared: ‘Those entering into a contractual agreement can agree
that the agreement shall be governed by a law other than English law.’

Religious law is on its way back, at least in England. I don’t think
we will have to worry about Iran getting a nuke and terrorizing the
world anymore. In 30-40 years England and Europe will be ruled by
Islamic fundamentalists and then we’ll have much more to worry about.

Islam should deal with its flock with Sharia law, the rest of us should deal
with everybody the same. This judge is wrong.

The judge’s ruling allows that.

The ruling applies to parties who agreed to abide by Sharia law, not
to others.
Now if only we could stop Christian fundamentalists from trying to
impose their religious law onto the rest of us Americans, we’d not
only have a better nation but also better Christians.

Any sect with a tradition of doing religious missionary work is, by
definition, attempting to impose its beliefs on its audience. Some do it
overseas, but some do it right here in this country.

I dispute the notion that our court system should do anything different just
because the participants are Islamic. We have our laws, and they are meant
to be applied evenly without regard for the religion of the parties.
If the parties want to then be dealt with through their religion, then so be
it.

But none of them do it through the court system. All you need to do is shut
the door.

What part of, " … agreement should be governed by OTHER THAN English law."
is difficult to understand, you twit. The judge said that Sharia law should
be drug into the court room, and that is what I think is wrong headed
thinking.

And I guess you consider the Evangelicals push to turn the US into a
Christian theocracy also a return to the darks ages. It was
Christians who devised the witch tests – if she drowns she wasn’t a
witch, if she comes up for air she is a witch.

Things have changed a lot in 300 years around here. What has changed
in the Islamic world? They’re still stuck in the 16th century. Your
hatred of pre-Reformation Christianity has blinded you to what is going
on currently in the world that hasn’t changed whatsoever from the
fundamentalist extremism of decapitation.

Seriously, you don’t see the same thing lurking just below the surface
of U.S. Christians? I do. I still see Protestants wanting to kill
Catholics. Remember, the KKK uses the cross and the Christian bible
as tools and symbols. And to ensure you don’t misunderstand me,
"religion" is pure and good UNTIL it takes root in the human mind.

Aw, c’mon! They use GPS systems for terrorism. They use cell phones to
detonate IEDs. They use the internet to broadcast threats and beheadings.
Also terrists ‘classes’ and coded messages.
No, the ‘modern Muslim’ uses technology to his advantage.

I am a United Methodist which is a Protestant. I probably know way
more Protestants than you do, including other denominations. Other
than some contempt for the Pope and worshipping of Mary instead of
Jesus by Catholics there is no talk or movement about killing them.
