You’ll Never Guess Which Car Is The Most American-Built In The World

We’ll give you a hint, it’s not even an American car.

Every year, Cars.com puts together a list of the most American-built cars. The list takes many things into account such as domestic part content, final assembly point, and overall vehicle sales. For the second year in a row, the car that topped this list is the Toyota Camry. Toyota sold 429,185 US-built Camrys in 2015, solidifying a sixth appearance on this list. The Camry has a domestic content of 75%. The other cars on the list were the Honda Accord, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave.

This brings up an interesting question about what makes a car “American-built.” We recently asked this question when we learned that BMW would start building the 3 Series in Mexico. Many people buy American cars because they think it will help the local economy. However, there are many cars that are much more “American” than models like the Mustang or Camaro. It pays to check where your next car actually came from before you drone on and on about how you’re saving the country with your Canadian or Mexican-built “American” car.
