Watch This 1,000-Horsepower Dragster Tear Its Own Wheel Off

Wow, 1,000 horsepower is a lot of power. Who knew?!

No matter how you put it, 1,000 horsepower is a lot. Tuning company Speed Warhouse, from Leesport, Pennsylvania, built a classic Toyota Celica with a 2JZ engine from a Supra. This engine was then tuned to – you guessed it – 1,000 horsepower. A 1975 Celica with this much power can certainly be a handful and, for the most part, it was problem free at the drag strip. With almost no testing, it was able to run a low 12-second quarter mile time which is not that fast for a 1,000 hp car. The team was nervous to push the car, for good reason as it turns out. When the driver launched the car hard, the left rear wheel completely broke off the car. Luckily for the driver the wheel came off before he was half way down the drag strip. Now you know why the ’75 Celica didn’t come with 1,000 horsepower as standard.
