Watch Out, Porsche: Lexus Just Squeezed More Power From Its Big V8

The Lexus LC 500 is gearing up to try and topple the 911.

The Lexus LC 500 is one of the new cars we’re most excited for. It’s one of the rare production models that actually looks like the concept it’s based on. Good looks aside the LC 500 will ride on an all-new rear-wheel-drive platform and feature a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The LC 500 made its official debut in Detroit and at the time we were told its V8 would make 467 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torque. Now Motor Authority is saying those figures are off. The good news is that the V8 LC 500 will actually be more powerful than Lexus initially announced.

Lexus brought its new sports coupe to the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and it was there that chief engineer Koji Sato said that the V8 will actually make 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. The extra power comes courtesy of changes made to the intake and exhaust. The good news is that more power could potentially be squeezed out of the Lexus as engineers are still finalizing the car’s design ahead of its early 2017 launch. Unfortunately for those eyeing the hybrid version, the LC 500h, there’s no word of that setup receiving a power bump. Here’s hoping Lexus can squeeze just a bit more power out of this mill. The sports coupe world may be shrinking but it’s still a fierce battleground. Having more horsepower definitely helps.
