Toyota to replace faulty Yaris suspension mounts

Toyota has launched a recall program for the 2015 Yaris hatchback, affecting approximately 3,100 vehicles sold in the US market.

Some of the cars may have been built with a defective bearing in the front upper shock assembly. The first signs of trouble include abnormal noises when driving on rough road surfaces or when turning the steering wheel.

“If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, a front shock absorber piston rod could separate, causing a loss of vehicle stability and increasing the risk of a crash,” the company warns.

Service technicians will replace the strut mount bearings with revised components. If any damage has already occurred, the vehicle will also receive a new suspension support sub-assembly.

It is unclear if the defect has been associated with any accidents or injuries.
