Toyota has released a teaser image for a new Prius variant that will make its global debut at the New York auto show.
“Toyota is rolling out the next mechanical marvel in the Prius lineup,” the company said in a vague statement. “Put limits in the rearview and check out the reveal … ”
The photo focuses on the model’s unique taillights, which span the entire width of the car. The LED bar is thin and vertically shorter than the taillights on the fourth-generation Prius, suggesting the mystery variant may be a sedan or coupe rather than a hatchback.
It is unclear if the teaser shows a direct successor to the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, the Prius c or the Prius v, or an entirely new entry in Toyota’s eco-focused family. The company last year submitted a trademark filing for the term Prius Prime, hinting at a potential rebranding for the new car.
Additional details could surface ahead of the March 23 media event.
