Toyota has released a teaser image that appears to show a new Tacoma pickup headed for Chicago.
“It’s not quite grilling season, but Toyota is heating up the Windy City with a world premiere Thursday, Feb. 11,” the company said in a statement, without elaborating.
The close-up shot narrowly focuses on part of the front end. The grille and hood scoop both resemble the 4Runner TRD Pro Series SUV, however the body contours are a closer match to the current Tacoma.
The third-generation Tacoma arrived on the market last year with available TRD Sport and TRD Off Road packages, however the lineup lacks ‘TOYOTA’ badging on the blacked-out grilles that help distinguish the 4Runner TRD Pro.
A Tacoma TRD Pro would likely be offered with ruggedized shocks, lifted springs and a few unique body elements to provide a more aggressive appearance compared to the standard pickup. Unique wheels and plenty of TRD logos would also presumably adorn the Pro edition.
Additional details could be released ahead of Toyota’s Thursday debut event.
