Toyota recalls more than 400,000 RAV4s for wiper defect

Toyota Rav4 Recall windshield wiper linkage 2009 2010 2011 2012

Corroded linkage could cause wiper to fail

Toyota said on Thursday it will recall almost half a million RAV4 SUVs because of issues related to the windshield wipers.  Apparently, the 423,500 affected RAV4s have an issue where water will start to corrode a joint in the linkage near the wiper motor, which then causes the linkage to separate from the assembly. This could stop the wipers from working, which could result in a crash.

The models subject to recall include 2009-2012 RAV4 and the 2012-14 RAV4 EV (the all-electric version). Toyota says it’ll notify the owners of the subjected RAV4s via first-class mail.
