Toyota today said it is recalling 26,000 Scion FR-S sports cars from the 2013-16 model years because of an ignition key interlock issue.
Toyota said in a statement that some vehicles’ automatic transmission key interlocks might not have been connected before sale. That can cause a key to be removed even if the gear position is not in “park,” increasing the risk of rollaways and crashes.
Toyota was unwilling to state whether there had been any accidents or injuries related to the defect. The NHTSA did not yet have relevant documents available pertaining to the recall.
Affected owners will be notified by mail, and any necessary fixes will be made at Toyota dealerships at no charge, the automaker said.
