The world’s largest automaker has recently teamed up with the students at Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research to pen the uBox concept, in a bid to electrify the Z Generation.

The development of the uBox concept has taken around two years and the prototype comes with a bespoke design that has been focused on enticing the so-called Generation Z buyers – people that have been born after 1995. This quirky design is certainly not going to bode well with everyone but at least the car has contemporary features such as LED daytime running lights, suicide rear doors, and a curved glass roof that is using “composite carbon fiber rails bonded with aluminum.”

Moving inside we find a highly versatile setting with reconfigurable and removable seats which are mounted on sliding tracks. The students also wanted the driver to be able to personalize the interior so they are proposing an online community where the owners can share anything from customized air vent designs to bespoke door trims. The designs can then be downloaded and manufactured using the 3D printing process.

The automaker was mum on performance details and only said the uBox is motivated by a green, electrified powertrain. The model also packs numerous 110-volt outlets which can deliver some of the juice to anything from laptops to a set of tools. The uBox was also created s part of the company’s unique partnership called Deep Orange which is designed to have students implicated into every automotive development segment from market research to engineering.
