They’re popping the bubbly and cutting the cake at Toyota as the venerable Prado SUV passed 250,000 Australian sales last month.
And next month will be another celebration as it marks 20 years since Prado joined the Australian Toyota lineup.
Looking at the total SUV market, only Toyota LandCruiser and RAV4 have logged more sales.
Toyota is dominating the Large SUV market segment again this year with Prado the number one best-seller and Kluger number two.
Toyota says the 250,000 total is split between diesel and petrol models – with diesel variants numbering around 156,000 vehicle and the number for petrol is around 94,000.
Prado is part of Toyota’s ‘Cruiser’ family which also includes the LandCruiser in both 200 Series wagon, and 70 Series workhorse forms, and the retro-styled FJ Cruiser. Sales of all three nameplates combined are closing on one million vehicles (950,423 currently).
In fact, with sales now topping 250,857 Australia is the fifth-largest global market for Toyota Prado.
