Toyota’s latest patent takes the head-up display to a new level.
The Japenese automaker has developed a system that actively scans its surroundings to figure out where information should be displayed on the windshield. By taking into account lane markers, the driver’s viewpoint and the vehicle’s steering angle and speed, the system can actively move the info around the windshield.
Toyota says that for safety, the image you see will correspond to the width of your vehicle to make staying in the center of the lane easier.
One example of how the system will work is when you pick up speed, the display will move up the screen and become smaller as the person driving is looking further into the distance. Navigation directions would also be able to move over the proper lane in the driver’s field of vision.
