The Corolla is turning 50 and to mark the milestone Toyota is giving the compact sedan a slight refresh and a special edition.
The 2017 Corolla receives a nipped and tucked front end, a redesigned interior and a standard back-up camera.
All 2017 Corollas have available Toyota Safety Sense-P, which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection function, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist function and automatic high beams.
The 50th anniversary special-edition package is based on the Corolla SE.
Package features include 17-inch alloy wheels with dark gray inserts and machine finish, black mixed media seats with black cherry contrast stitching, black cherry accented dash panel and door trim, 50th anniversary edition floor mats and exterior badge.
The 50th anniversary edition package will be offered in three color options: Black Cherry, Classic Silver and Blizzard Pearl.
Toyota said 8,000 anniversary edition Corollas will be sold in the U.S.
It will go on sale this fall. No pricing information was available.
Toyota also launched the Corolla 50th Anniversary campaign, which will highlight Corolla owners’ stories through a partnership with BuzzFeed and actresses Gina Rodriguez and Hannah Simone.
Corolla drivers are encouraged to share their stories with the hashtag #Corolla50.
Akio Toyoda, president and CEO of Toyota, owned a used Corolla GT when he was out of college.
“Not only did my Corolla influence me and my own path, but this vehicle — supported by fans and customers — helped transform Toyota as a company around the world,” Toyoda said in a statement.
The automaker says it has sold more than 43 million Corollas.
