Toyota is heading to this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours race with a crossover.
Toyota Gazoo Racing will be competing with the C-HR at this year’s event, along with a Lexus RC coupe and RC F coupe, the company has announced. The crossover originally debuted in concept form at the 2014 Paris Motor Show but more recently it made an appearance at the 2015 L.A. Auto Show as a Scion-branded model. According to the Japanese automaker, the race car will look much closer to the final production model.
Interestingly enough, Toyota Gazoo Racing released the above render of the race car and the crossover’s overall shape closely resembles the concept. This suggests that the production C-HR, which will be sold in the U.S. as a Scion model, won’t see major changes compared to the concept.
As strange as it sounds to have a crossover competing at the famous Nurburgring 24 Hours, the C-HR doesn’t look too far out of place with its aerodynamic tweaks, lowered suspension and wheels.
Gazoo Racing first competed at the Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2007 with the then-new Lexus IS. This year’s race will take place from May 26-29.
