This Japanese Auto Giant Wants 6.5 Million Of Its Cars Back Due To Fire Fears

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Just about everything in a modern car can start a fire. These last few weeks we’ve learned that there are just about a million ways a car can catch on fire. GM taught us that windshield wipers can cause fires and now Toyota will have you fearing your power windows. The Japanese auto giant is recalling 6.5 million vehicles worldwide, including 2 million in the United States. The issue involves the power window switch that “may have been manufactured with insufficient lubricant grease.” This could lead to short-circuiting, overheating and then melting which could cause a fire.

Unlike the recent GM recall this one has caused problems. A total of 11 incidents have been recorded, with one case in the US causing a burned hand. The affected vehicles include the following: 2007 and 2009 Camry Hybrid, 2009-11 Corolla, 2008-11 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2009-11 Matrix, 2006-11 RAV4, 2009-11 Sequoia, 2009-11 Tundra, 2006-10 Yaris, 2009-11 Scion xB and 2009-10 Scion xD. We’re happy to see Toyota being so proactive on this. Yes, the danger doesn’t seem very high but anytime the word “fire” is used people get on edge. Besides, one person burned by a defect is one too many. Also, please note that the image of a burned Toyota featured here is not linked to the recall.
