Fun fact—a new Toyota Camry sells every 60 seconds in the United States. In one month alone, that measure equates to nearly 50,000 units sold. Add that up over the past 30+ years, and the Camry not only remains one of the best selling cars in America, but has sold over 10 million total units, many of which, are still on the road today. Add in a truly astonishing amount of accolades and awards, and the Camry remains a truly legendary product indeed. This week, Toyota Motor Company has blessed me with the opportunity to try one for a week.
The top line XLE trim was dropped off, and was loaded to the brim with a total MSRP of just over $36,000. That’s a hefty amount of options over the base price of the Camry at just over $20,000. Yet, spending a week with the tester has been a truly invaluable driving experience, and positions this XLE model more towards the Lexus portfolio, rather than its parent company brand line-up.
Starting from under the hood, the XLE model is outfitted with the brand’s potent, yet efficient 3.5-liter V6 engine. Acceleration is exceptional with the ability to pass and launch with ease. Engineers then mate the spirited powerplant to a smooth shifting 8-speed transmission that provides just the start to what is notably one of the finest driving products in its competitive class.
The exterior styling of the latest generation Camry takes most cues from its more upscale Lexus siblings. A quick glance to the new body exposes a transparent connection, which is not a bad deal at all. Mix in updated looks, and the sheer presence of the bold new Camry will not go unnoticed, and may even prompt a second glance.
The Camry’s legacy will live on for even more generations and will forever stand as a staple of the automotive industry. It’s no doubt the Camry is simply one of the best, and with new technology, safety, and innovation will remain a top pick choice among one of the most popular segments for the last several decades running.
