South Africa – This is a one-off Toyota Hilux image
The vehicle in question has been called the Toyota Hilux Racing Experience and it is coming with the modified front and rear differentials, beefier brakes, a sportier suspension system lowering the ride height by 50 mm, 18-inch alloy wheels and several other goodies. The all-wheel drive system has been maintained, as the company is stating.
Under its hood, the one-off Toyota Hilux is making use of a 5.0 liter V8 engine. This has been borrowed from the Lexus IS F and has been upgraded in order to deliver a total of 455 HP (335 kW) at 6,000 rpm. The engine is said to be similar to the race Hilux and it is using the Pectel Cosworth engine management, the Dakar-spec inlet manifold, a D-4D gearbox, a full tubular exhaust system and the twin-plate AP racing clutch.
The one millionth Toyota Hilux has been sold to Pretoria businessman Shabier Aboobaker, who has bought the single cab 3.0 D-4D Legend 45 model and the milestone event has been celebrated with the addition of a road-legal version of the race-spec 5.0 liter V8 off-road Hilux. The project has cost approximately R1 million, or the equivalent of just over 72,000 USD, and it is currently a one-off vehicle. However, things might change in the future as the demand for the high-powered Hilux is high as several people have already contacted Toyota South Africa to express their interest in it.
