Two Scion models will remain on sale as rebadged Toyotas, the manufacturer has confirmed.
The Scion brand will be gone soon but Toyota still wants to offer some of its cars and that’s why we are going to see the iA and iM joining the Japanese company’s lineup. The two vehicles will be rolled into existing model lines and so the iA will become the Yaris iA, while the iM will be named the Corolla iM.
These changes will be effective for 2017 and Scion spokeswoman Nancy Hubbell has commented to Autoblog.com the iA is already on sale in Canada and Mexico as the Yaris, so “that connection was already there.”
“The same goes with Corolla,” Hubbell added. She explained the current Corolla sedan and the Scion iM “paired really well.” Basically, this means Toyota will be able to advertise the Corolla as having two body styles.
The Scion FR-S will also remain on sale as the 2017 Toyota GT 86 that will receive its premiere during the upcoming New York Auto Show. Sales of the refreshed model are scheduled to kick off this fall, while the European version is expected at the end of the year.
