Report – New generation Lexus LS to be presented at the beginning of 2017 image
The most recent report flying off the rumor mill directly from Japan concerns the launch of the new generation Lexus LS flagship sedan, which is being tipped for an early introduction next year.
According to the report coming from the Rising Sun country, the LS – in its upcoming fifth-generation – will be officially introduced in front of the worldwide audience of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January. Lexus already previewed the generation change via the LF-FC concept presented during the 2015 edition of the Tokyo Motor Show and now the production version could be here as quickly as next year’s NAIAS. The next generation LS is expected to remain pretty faithful to the LF-FC prototype but it will also have some of the design cues with the hot LC coupe. When talking about the interior, the Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin said the new LS would feature “some cool interior stuff.”
This is rather cryptic but Lexus has already tipped the main focus would be technology and craftsmanship, with a desire to bring unique stuff that have never been seen before. This should also be the second Lexus line to use the all new global rear-wheel-drive architecture, after the LC, with an all wheel drive version as an optional. A hybrid 3.5-liter V6 from the LC 500h will be on the agenda, as well as a long-wheelbase LS to better compete with the German rivals.
