Toyota has introduced a new 174bhp 2.8-litre D-4D diesel engine to the Land Cruiser range. Replacing the old 3.0-litre diesel, the new diesel motor is slightly down on power over the engine it replaces but more fuel-efficient.

The 2.8-litre diesel produces 174bhp and 450Nm of torque when paired with the new six-speed automatic gearbox, which replaces the old five-speed transmission. Toyota now claims a nine per boost in economy, with figures of 39.2mpg and 194g/km. A six-speed manual gearbox is also available with the new engine, but receives slightly less torque at 420Nm.

Other updates to the Land Cruiser include the reintroduction of the five-door, seven-seat entry-level Active model, while all Land Cruisers now come equipped with DAB radio as standard.
