Lexus To Enter IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship With RC F GT3

Lexus recently announced that it will offer factory support for the new F Performance Racing team led by Scott Pruett. The veteran racer has extensive experience in North American racing series so it comes as no surprise that the Lexus-backed team just announced it will initially compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The team will compete with the new Lexus RC F GT3 race car in the GT Daytona class. The team will start racing this year, though for this inaugural season it will be focused on developing the race organization and gathering data. In addition, only a limited number of races are planned, which is likely the reason we didn’t see the team competing over the weekend in the Rolex 24 at Daytona season-opener.

Lexus and F Performance Racing has entered an agreement with IMSA to compete in the race series for at least the next three years. While only a limited number of races will be entered this year, for the 2017 and 2018 seasons the plan calls for Lexus and the Pruett-led team to participate in a full racing schedule with a multi-vehicle effort. Joining Pruett will be youngster Sage Karam. Other drivers will be announced at a later date.

F Performance Racing is working closely with Lexus to prepare the car for the homologation process and for competition. The team was only formed in 2015 but has plenty of experience behind it. In addition to Pruett, there’s also team co-owner Paul Gentilozzi, a five-time winner of the Trans-Am Series.
