Lexus Teaser Hints At New Performance Model – LC Coupe?

Lexus has promised its fans a “world premiere” for this month’s Detroit Auto Show, and released a single teaser image to keep them guessing.

The image shows nothing more than tyre-burn marks on a tarmac surface, so it’s fair to say the new machine won’t be a lumbering SUV or a small city car.

Instead, the covers may reveal the long-rumoured LC luxury coupe in production form, set to take on the likes of BMW’s 6 Series, the upcoming new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe or even the Infiniti Q60.

Lexus is yet to confirm anything, only using the word “unprecedented” to describe its new car.

The carmaker trademarked two ‘LC’ names in late 2014: LC 500 and LC 500h. Using Lexus’ usual naming patterns, ‘LC’ is likely to stand for ‘Luxury Coupe’.

The LF-C2 concept, also from late 2014, was expected to preview a convertible version of the RC coupe, but the concept may instead have thrown fans off the scent as a preview to the LC.

Rumours also suggest the new offering could be hydrogen-powered; at least in concept form much like the LF-FC from the Tokyo Motor Show. Parent company Toyota is pushing harder than most to see hydrogen as a more mainstream fuel.

For now, fans can only speculate as to what Lexus has up its sleeve for Detroit. Stay tuned to TMR for more.
