Lexus Rounds Out Engine Range For 2016 IS Sedan

Lexus has announced an updated engine lineup for the 2016 IS sedan overseas. IS 300 and IS 350 variants will join the previously announced IS 200t

The new IS 200t starts the range off, featuring a turbocharged 2.0 litre four cylinder engine. Delivering 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque, with drive sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

First seen in the NX 200t SUV, this engine features a twin scroll turbocharger, direct and port injection, and Variable Valve Timing Intelligent – Wide (VVTi-W) which allows the engine to switch between the Otto, or more efficient, Atkinson combustion cycles.

Fuel consumption is rated at 7.0 l/100km, or 7.2 l/100km for vehicles equipped with 18-inch wheels.

Moving up the range is the IS 300 AWD, with a 3.5 litre V6 producing 190kW and 319Nm – not to be confused with the existing four-cylinder hybrid IS300h. This engine comes mated to an all wheel drive system and six-speed automatic.

The 2.5 litre V6 of the current IS 250 will be discontinued. In its place the IS 300 gains an extra 37kW and 67Nm.

At the top of the range the IS 350 continues with a more powerful 3.5 litre V6 capable of 228kW and 375Nm. The IS 350 is available with a Sport Direct Shift eight-speed auto in either rear or all wheel drive.

The electronically controlled all wheel drive system is capable of varying torque from a static 30:70 front/rear split to an even 50:50 as required.

Australian specifications are yet to be confirmed, but it’s unlikely we’ll see the all wheel drive models here, ruling the IS 300 AWD out.

Instead, expect a lineup similar what is currently available with Luxury, Sports Luxury, and F-Sport variants available for both the IS 200t and IS 350.
