Lexus reveals RC F GT Concept

Lexus has chosen the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach to unveil a new race car concept based on the RC F.

The RC F GT Concept splits the difference between the road-going, 467-horsepower Lexus RC F and the Lexus RC F GT3 race car that will be competing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.

According to Lexus, the RC F GT was developed in conjunction to the RC F road car. It uses the same powertrain as the production version, but with lubrication and cooling systems modified for race duty, as well as a freer-flowing exhaust.

However, the RC F GT Concept should perform significantly better as it weighs a whopping 800 pounds less than the streetable version’s rather portly 3,968 curb weight (the GT3 car weighs another 400-plus pounds less than that) thanks to composite body panels and other weight-saving measures.

Additional modifications include a reinforced and adjustable racing suspension and software upgrades to the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. The RC F GT Concept will be driven by professional racers Scott Pruett and Roger Yasukawa this weekend in Long Beach.
