The Lexus LC500h, a hybrid version of the Japanese firm’s LC performance coupe, has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Geneva motor show.
What is it?
The LC500h is a hybrid version of Lexus’ LC coupe, and a potential rival for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé. It has been described as signalling “the next phase in the evolution of Lexus,” and is powered by a new version of Lexus’ hybrid powertrain.
This hybrid version is the second variant of the LC range to be revealed, following on from the LC500 version which made its debut at the Detroit motor show in January. The LC is inspired by the LF-LC concept car, which was revealed in 2012.
What engines can I choose from?
Powering the LC500h is a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, which works in conjunction with an electric motor, giving a combined system output of 354bhp, meaning the LC500h can reach 62mph from a standing start in less than five seconds.
Interestingly, the LC500h features a four-speed automatic gearbox instead of the usual CVT, which Lexus says is a first for a hybrid car.
A faster hybrid version is also possible, while a convertible model is also under consideration.
How much equipment does it come with?
As the LC500h is very similar to the LC500, expect it to come with much of the same equipment and interior layout. That means a four-seat cabin with a fully digital instrument cluster and the next generation of Lexus’ infotainment system.
Among the technology included on the LC500h is a pre-crash safety system, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance and automatic high-beam assistance.
How much will it cost?
Lexus has yet to confirm how much the LC line-up will cost, only saying that it will sit between the £59,430 of the BMW 6 Series and the £76,412 of the Porsche 911, but the car will go on sale next spring.
Lexus says the launch of the LC range “marks the beginning of a new phase for the Lexus brand, with a shift in engineering processes and design ideologies”.
