Lexus IS facelift teased for Beijing Auto Show

Lexus is providing a first glimpse of the facelifted IS set to bow next week in Beijing.

The third-generation IS came out in 2013 and is about to receive its first revision which will bring redesigned headlights and a new look for the front bumper. The corporate spindle grille remains huge and is surrounded by a chrome trim like on the outgoing version. Any other possible changes are not visible from this angle, but there could be slightly different taillights and some subtle revisions to the rear bumper to keep the sports sedan fresh and competitive.

Some changes inside the cabin are likely on the agenda and there could be an updated infotainment system and more tech goodies, including additional driver aids.

Toyota’s posh marque isn’t saying at this point whether there are any mechanical changes to the facelifted IS. In United States, you can get the model in a 200t RWD guise with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine delivering 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 has 255 hp and 236 lb-ft in the IS 300 AWD and 306 hp and 277 lb-ft in the IS 350 (RWD or AWD). In select markets, Lexus is also selling a hybrid 300h model which combines a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to grant a total output of 223 hp (164 kW).

The Lexus IS facelift will debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show on April 25 and will likely arrive in United States before the year’s end as a 2017MY.
