Lexus has announced the newly formed F Performance Racing team will enter competition next year with an RC F GT3.
The model will be driven Scott Pruett who will compete in a soon to be announced sports car series. The team will only being competing in a limited number of events next year but they intend to participate in a full racing schedule with a multi-vehicle effort for the 2017 / 2018 season.
The race car will be powered by a production derived 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops more than 500 bhp (372 kW). It will be connected to a six-speed sequential transmission which should enable the 2866 lb (1300 kg) car to scream around the track.
In a statement, Lexus group vice president and general manager Jeff Bracken said “A core mission of F Performance Racing was to strengthen the Lexus’ F brand by applying lessons gleaned from racing, while nurturing an engineering culture that transfers that knowledge to dynamic, high performance passenger car development. We are very excited about what this partnership and race effort can mean for the brand in the years to come.”
