Lexus Designs A 28th Century Spacecraft For “Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets” [w/Trailer]

Meet the ‘SKYJET’, a single-seat pursuit craft designed by Lexus and Europacorp that will star in the 2017 science action film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

The movie, directed by none other than Luc Besson (Fifth Element, Lucy), features an all-star cast with the likes of Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Cara Delevingne and even Rihanna taking center stage. This is also Luc Besson’s most ambitious movie to date and largest-budget European motion picture ever produced.

In order to design the SKYJET, the Valerian team met with Lexus’ Chief Engineer, Takeaki Kato as well as the design team in order to figure out how to incorporate believable technologies and design cues into a project that’s supposed to reflect the future 700 years from now.

Upon closer inspection, the SKYJET’s design features an adapted interpretation of Lexus’ signature “spindle” grille as well as a similar headlight design to that of the 2018 Lexus LC Coupe.

“For this partnership we were looking for a brand that’s pioneering in innovation and technology, who is focused on the future more than the past,” said director Luc Besson.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will arrive in cinemas in July 2017, and if you’d like to know what to expect from it, we’ve even brought you the first teaser trailer, released just today.
