Jaguar and Mercedes have shone in the latest round of Euro NCAP results.
The Jaguar XE and XF were both awarded top marks, as were the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X1, Infiniti Q30 and Lexus RX. The Kia Optima and Sportage, Renault Megane and Vauxhall Astra were also awarded five-star ratings.
The Nissan NP300 Navara and Mini Clubman missed out on top marks, while the BMW Z4 achieved only three stars, with the lower rating attributed to the model’s age and failure to keep up with safety technologies such as lane and speed assist and emergency self-braking.
The Lanicia Ypsilon, which is no longer sold in the UK, fared even worse, achieving only two stars. It performed particularly badly in the full width rigid barrier test, while the offset frontal barrier test resulted in a fire starting beneath the bonnet. Lancia says it’s fixing the issue.
