It Turns Out You Can Put Over A Million Miles On A Tundra In Under 10 Years

This thing would still fetch at least $5,000 on Craigslist.

Putting one million miles on a car is hard for many reasons. The biggest one is because, well, cars break. But some cars last longer than others. Victor Sheppard of Louisiana bought his Toyota Tundra new back in 2007 and since then has put over a million miles on it. Shepard’s car has been to the dealership for service 117 times but amazingly it still has its original engine, transmission and paint job. Yes, the truck kept its biggest components intact despite Shepard driving an average of 125,000 miles a year.

Toyota found out about Shepard’s truck and decided to reward him, swapping his ’07 model for a brand new 2016 Tundra. The automaker is going to strip down Shepard’s truck to find out how it lasted so damn long. The process is expected to take months but it should help Toyota figure out how to improve its top-tier pickup. It’s not every day that you get to see how well your craftsmanship holds up after one million real world miles. Although Toyota is stripping Shepard’s truck they did throw it and him a little party at Greg Leblanc Toyota in Houma, Louisiana, where the truck was purchased and serviced. Mike Sweers, Toyota’s chief truck engineer, even stopped in to sign Shepard’s truck. Lesson learned: Never get rid of a car close to 1,000,000 miles.
