Could The Toyota Supra Successor’s Main Target Be The Porsche 911?

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter We wouldn’t put it past Toyota to aim high here. We haven’t heard much regarding this topic for a bit of time now, but we do know that the joint BMW-Toyota sports car project is still very much moving forward. In fact, the final design touches are currently being completed on each car. Both will likely debut in concept form sometime next year. And now Australia’s Motoring has uncovered a few updates regarding Toyota’s car, which is being considered as a Supra successor.

Could The Toyota Supra Successor’s Main Target Be The Porsche 911?

Although its official name has yet to be confirmed, insider sources from both BMW and Toyota are claiming that both cars will be about the size of a Porsche 911 and will feature outputs of around 470 hp. In addition, each car will be built on an aluminum spaceframe chassis and will have carbon fiber reinforced plastic body panels. The Toyota source further added that its version of the car already has a finalized design, saying that people “will be surprised how good it looks.” We’re hoping that influence was taken from the FT-1 Concept. Both cars will come powered by a 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder (a 2.0-liter turbo four will be standard on the BMW only).

The Toyota will also be a plug-in hybrid, an optional feature that’ll arrive later on the BMW. But it’s the hybrid that’ll be the most powerful; the 3.0 alone delivers around 335 hp. Chassis work is being handled by BMW while Toyota is in charge of the environmental technologies.
