Canada’s 2016 Toyota Yaris Sedan Is A Rebadged Scion iA / Mazda2 Sedan [65 Photos]

What do you call a rebadged car that gets rebadged one more time? We don’t know if there’s a term for it, but in this particular case it’s called the 2016 Toyota Yaris Sedan.

Just launched in Canada, it’s essentially a rebadged Scion iA, which in its turn is a rebadged Mazda2 sedan. Although Scion is present on the Canadian market, Toyota curiously decided to bring the iA over as the Yaris Sedan. Obviously, it doesn’t share anything with the Yaris hatchback except the name.

As you can see from the photos, the only thing that’s changed compared to the Scion iA is the badging.

The 2016 Yaris Sedan will be offered in Canada with two models: a manual version priced from C$16,995 and an automatic versions starting at C$18,200. Both are powered by the same 106hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

With the six-speed manual, the 2016 Toyota Yaris Sedan achieves a combined fuel consumption of 6.7 l/100 km (35.1 mpg US), while with the six-speed auto it returns 6.4 l/100 km (36.7 mpg US). The six-speed automatic transmission features a lock-up torque converter and a Sport Mode that boosts torque for more dynamic driving.

The automatic model can be ordered with an available Premium Package (C$20,200), which adds a Display Audio system with 7-inch touch screen, six speakers, two USB ports, heated front seats, aluminum alloy wheels, fog lamps, and a back-up camera.

Standard equipment for all 2016 Toyota Yaris Sedan models includes cruise control, power windows and power door locks, all set off with chrome accents.

The 2016 Yaris Sedan is now on sale at Toyota dealers across Canada.
