BMW Board Member downplays possibility of jointly developed Lexus supercar

Rumors about a jointly-developed BMW and Lexus supercar have been floating around for months but one high-ranking official has dismissed the idea.

While BMW and Toyota are already working together on a new sports car to replace the Z4 and Supra, one BMW board member told Automobile Magazine the only way they would develop a supercar with Toyota / Lexus would be “over my dead body.”

Instead, the company is rumored to be considering basing their new supercar on the McLaren 650S successor.  BMW M boss Frank van Meel has denied this but the publication suggests he is being left out of the loop because he would oppose the move and want to develop the model in-house.  We’re taking that with a grain of salt but the car is rumored to have a quad-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces approximately 750 bhp (559 kW).
