A More Powerful, More Hardcore Toyota 86 is Here—Just Not For Us

Enthusiasts have been dreaming of a more powerful Toyota GT 86 (or in our case, Scion FR-S) since it was introduced. With just 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft torque, straight line performance is nothing to shake a stick out. But now, our prayers have been answered…sort of.

This is the limited run Toyota 86 GRMN. The GRMN moniker stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of Nurburgring. It’s not just another fancy name, it signifies a lighter, slightly more powerful 86 than the one you get from the factory.

The horsepower has been bumped from the standard 200 up to 216. Torque as well has been upped from 151 lb-ft to 160. It may not sound like much, but consider that this special edition 86 also went on a diet and shed just about 100 pounds.

Along with the 100-pound weight loss is the introduction of a rear wing, a carbon fiber hood, and some aerodynamic enhancements throughout. But before you go signing on the dotted line, there’s something crucial to be aware of.

This special edition 86 will only be available to Japanese buyers, at a cost of $53,800. Sorry, all you U.S. enthusiasts–looks like we’ll have to wait even longer to get our hands on a more powerful FR-S.
