A heavily disguised Lexus RX has been spied testing around L.A., adding fuel to the rumors that a seven-seat version of the popular luxury crossover is coming soon.

Dealers have been asking Lexus for a three-row RX for a while now, and AutoGuide.com‘s expert spy photographers say that the extra padding in the rear three-quarters of the spied SUV could be hiding the few extra inches of length needed to accommodate the extra seats. The extra dark tinting on the rear windows could also be keeping prying eyes from looking inside to confirm an extra row of seats.

A three-row RX would give the crossover added flexibility and allow it to compete with larger SUVs. A new, redesigned RX is scheduled to be unveiled this fall as a five-seater, but maybe Lexus will surprise by offering a seven-seat configuration for this next-generation crossover.

There has also been speculation that Lexus will introduce a new model called the TX, a name that has been trademarked by Lexus. This TX could also be the SUV that ends up with three rows.
