2017 Toyota Corolla sedan revealed, Australian launch due early next year

Australia’s 2017 Toyota Corolla sedan has been revealed this week, ahead of a local debut set to occur early next year.

These renderings of the top-spec ZR model, described as “preview images”, reveal that although two separate Corolla sedan have appeared in recent design patent applications, the local model’s face will debut a third distinct look for Toyota’s small car.

And, while those earlier renderings wore front-end styling that would have brought the Corolla sedan close in appearance to its five-door hatch sibling, the final Australia-bound design will see the four-door model retain its standapart looks.

Among the changes are reshaped headlights that debut a sweeping and more aggressive look, along with a narrow new grille design and a reshaped front bumper.

Changes are the rear are less significant, with tweaks largely limited to new smoked and cherry-red lenses for the tail-lights, and a new slender chrome hand grab through the centre of the boot lid.

New features for 2017 will include LED headlight clusters and LED daytime lights in the ZR model, along with LED tail lamps. The ZR will also get a chrome finish to the door handles.

Safety technology will include Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) plus Automatic High Beam (AHB) as standard with the ZR model, and as optional additions for the lower-grade Ascent and SX models.

Exact launch timing for this update is still to be confirmed, and mechanical details are likewise yet to surface.

In its current form, the Corolla sedan is driven by a 103kW/173Nm 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, with no indication of any changes seen for this coming update.
