The 2016 Toyota Prius is facing a bit of an uphill battle as low gas prices having been limiting the car’s appeal but the company is hoping to give the model a boast by airing a new commercial during this weekend’s Super Bowl.
In a teaser trailer released today, Toyota hints its commercial will target Generation X with an 80s glam metal tune while highlighting some of the car’s features including its sleeker styling and improved fuel efficiency. The ad, called “Heck on Wheels,” also notes the improved handling and the available collision warning system.
The 2016 Toyota Prius starts at $24,200 and features an eco-friendly powertrain that consists of a 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine, two electric motor/generators, and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Thanks to this setup, the model produces a combined maximum output of 121 horsepower. More importantly, the model has EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 54 mpg city / 50 mpg highway / 52 mpg combined.
If that’s not efficient enough, the company offers an Eco variant which features aerodynamic styling tweaks that it to return an estimated 58 mpg city / 53 mpg highway / 56 mpg combined.
