The very first global model to ride on Toyota’s TNGA platform, the reinvented Prius adopts a polarizing design which you either love or hate as there’s no room for something in-between. While the front end and side profile are not that striking, it takes time getting used to that peculiar rear end which resembles the Mirai hydrogen vehicle also being displayed at IAA.
Design aside, Toyota says the all-new Prius boasts a 60% more rigid chassis wrapped around in a body which is now 60mm longer, 15mm wider and 20mm lower. The thermal efficiency of the combustion engine has been increased to more than 40% and corroborated with a more efficient hybrid system it has boosted the car’s fuel efficiency by 10% compared to the outgoing model.
It is bound to hit dealerships in Japan by the year’s end while other markets will receive the car in 2016. Customers will get to choose from seven body paints, including this newly added Hypersonic Red paint while the interior cabin will feature glossy white accents that hopefully won’t be a fingerprint magnet.
