2016 Toyota HiAce update for Australia brings Euro 5 diesel upgrade

The Toyota HiAce range has been updated this week, including a Euro 5-compliant diesel engine, new variants and small price increases across the line-up.

Headlining the updates is the improved urban fuel economy for the revised 3.0-litre turbo-diesel, which has been recalibrated to meet Euro 5 emissions standards. The upgraded engine includes a diesel particulate filter with both the manual and automatic transmissions.

Toyota has also expanded the HiAce line-up by adding two new commuter bus diesel variants with a no-cost option of 12 seats along with the standard 14 seats, meaning they  can be driven by anyone with a regular car licence.

When equipped with the five-speed manual transmission, the HiAce Long Wheel Base (LWB) crew van and Super Long Wheel Base (SLWB) van see fuel economy gains of 4.6 per cent around town.

These variants also see a city-cycle improvement with the optional six-speed automatic, which improves by 3.5 per cent.

Also offered with the refreshed HiAce is the choice of a left-side window or steel panel on the white automatic LWB diesel van – an addition based on feedback from the local dealer network.

This 2016 update follows last year’s refresh which saw the petrol engine meet Euro 5 standards along with the addition of safety equipment such as stability control and brake assist.

Every Toyota HiAce is covered by Toyota’s capped-price servicing schedule, costing $180 per service for petrol models and $240 for diesel variants.

Pricing for the HiAce range has increased by two per cent for vans and 3.8 per cent for buses due to the weakening of the Australian dollar against the Japanese yen over the past year.
