The 2016 Fortuner has been officially unveiled by Toyota Australia as the model in question has been based on the newest HiLux pickup truck.

The new Toyota Fortuner is a 7-seat off-roader which is getting the same features as the HiLux. The model stands at 4,795 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,835 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,745 mm. It has a double wishbone setup in the front and 5-link coil-spring setup at the rear. The four-wheel drive system, with high and low range, will be offered as standard across the range, along with the rear differential lock, the trailer sway control system, the reversing camera, seven airbags and hill-start assist.

When the 4WD system is not needed, drivers can use the 2WD setup which is more economic, obviously. The high-end versions will be packing the downhill assist control system, too, along with the keyless smart entry and start, roof rails and so on. Under its hood, the AU-spec of the vehicle will be getting a 2.8 liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, producing a total of 177 HP (130 kW) at 3,400 rpm, connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and getting 420 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm or to a 6-speed automatic and getting 450 Nm of torque, available from as low as 1,400 rpm. The towing capacity for the manual transmission stands at 3,000 kg and for the automatic at 2,800 kg. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be reaching Australian dealerships by the end of October but no pricing details have been announced so far.
