2015 Lexus RC 350
Many automakers reserve the smaller displacement versions of their cars for the overseas markets.
But we’ve learned that Lexus plans to offer a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the United States in the form of the RC 200t. The model will join the already available 306 horsepower RC 350 and range-topping 468 hp RC F.
Details come from Motor Trend, which reports that while no official announcement has been made, Lexus is committed to offering a third version of its latest coupe domestically. The 2.0 I-4 made its debut in the NX 200t with 235 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque, and Lexus has recently announced that the IS sedan will get a version with 241 horsepower and the same torque figure. Expect the turbo four in the RC 200t to produce a little more power than both of those mills, as Lexus wants to differentiate its coupe.
Notable options on tap for the RC 200t will likely include AWD and the Lexus F Sport package, which adds a more aggressive grille, wheels, and some racy exterior bits.
We’re glad that the third RC will not get the 2.5-liter V-6 that made 204 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque in earlier versions of the IS. Not only did that engine not have much power, but it also didn’t deliver very good fuel economy.
Expect the RC 200t to start a few thousand dollars below the RWD RC 350’s MSRP of $42,790.
