Lexus IS200t Front Three Quarters 1
Finally catching up with the zeitgeist of downsized turbo engines, Lexus replaced the 2.5-liter V-6 in the IS sedan with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for the 2016 Lexus IS200t. Now, Lexus has released fuel economy numbers for the new turbo IS, and they represent a big gain over the old V-6.
Lexus IS200t Rear Three Quarters
With its new 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, the 2016 Lexus IS200t sees ratings of 22/33/26 mpg (city/highway/combined), big increases over the departing IS250’s 21/30/24 mpg, when equipped with rear-wheel drive. The improved efficiency comes as the new engine is more powerful, too. Although it packed two more cylinders, the 2.5-liter in the outgoing IS250 put out just 204 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, compared to the 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque from the new four-pot. While the Lexus IS250 was available in both rear- and all-wheel-drive trim, Lexus doesn’t yet have an AWD version of the IS200t. For now, the new IS300 AWD joins the lineup for those who need power sent to all four wheels without stepping up to the cost or power of the IS350. The IS300 AWD comes with the same 3.5-liter V-6 from the top-tier IS350, but it has been detuned to produce 255 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Due to the 1.0-liter gain in size over the IS250 AWD, the new 2016 Lexus IS300 AWD suffers slightly in the fuel-economy standings compared to its immediate predecessor, returning 19/26 mpg, compared to 20/27 mpg in the outgoing IS250 AWD. The new 2.0-liter turbo-four engine is also used in the Lexus NX crossover, as well as in the GS200t sedan and the RC200t coupe.
