2016 Lexus GS pricing and specifications: New looks, upgraded features

The facelifted 2016 Lexus GS range has landed in Australia, bringing new looks, new features and revised pricing to the large premium sedan party.

The 2016 Lexus GS line-up kicks off with the new turbocharged GS200t, replacing the GS250 level that opened the range before. The model spread is otherwise familiar fare, with the GS300h hybrid, GS350 and GS450h hybrid again starring.

The new GS200t is priced from $75,000 plus on-road costs, marking a $2890 increase over the pre-facelift GS250’s most recent starting point – although the range has previously started at around $77,000.

Styling changes for the GS family include a new look at the front end, with a broader version of Lexus’s familiar ‘spindle’ grille design, new headlights and daytime lamps, and tall new fog-light bezels.

Changes are less extravagant at the other end, with new RC Coupe-inspired tail-light internals and a revised look to the rear bumper and exhaust finishers.

There’s a host of small but notable changes in the cabin, including Lexus’s new-look steering wheel (including special stitching on high-grade models), a new clock and centre air vent surround, new metal highlights, remote touch switches and door trim switches, an updated shift lever knob, and a new centrally positioned rear lamp.

The GS200t replaces the 250’s 154kW/253Nm 2.5-litre petrol V6 with Lexus’s new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, with fuel consumption rated at 8.0L/100km on the combined cycle – a marked improvement over the less powerful GS 250’s 9.3L/100km.
