I need to buy soon.
What are your thoughts comparing CAMRAY LE V6 A/t to ’99 ACCORD LX-6 A/T vs
’99 MAXIMA GXE V6 A/T ALL with ABS Brakes
Any Factory incentives on any of these that you know of?????
Should I expect to pay 90% of Lisp Price????? I will purchase, not lease
THANKS IN ADVANCE

The Camry V6 (lexus in sheep’s clothing) is the best bet. This year the V6s
(which all have ABS std) have a value package including alloy wheels, power
seat, and AM/FM Cassette CD combo w 6spkrs essentially for free.
The best deal should be in the range of $2000 off MSRP (close to 10%) See
putnamtoyota.com and click on weekend specials (only works Friday through
Sunday night) for an example.
Best of Luck…

I’ve recently made the same comparison,. Here are my thoughts:
The Camry has the best ride, without a doubt. The Maxima may be a little bit
softer on some surfaces, but its not nearly as well controlled.
The Honda handles better than the either, without much of a penalty in ride.
If ride is the ultimate factor for you, though, the Camry is better.
I found I like the interior of the Honda marginally better: somewhat more
comfortable seats, noticeably more rear leg room, and better styled, to my
eye. The Camry was a close second, but the seats don’t offer enough thigh
support, and there’s less legroom in back. I was very disapointed in the
Maxima. It just felt cheaper, some how, even though it had the highest
sticker of the bunch.
The Camry V6 is the best mass produced V6 on the road. Smooth, quiet,
powerful and reliable. The Honda’s isn’t quite as smooth or quiet, but it’s
close.
The Honda has a power drivers seat standard, which is kind of nice. But
other options, like CD player, sunroof, alarm system, alloy wheels, are not
available from the factory. They are dealer installed options only, which
means you’re at the mercy of your dealer for price, quality and installation
quality.
Toyota offers a number of options, including a "value package" that adds alloy
wheels, a CD player and a power drivers seta for about $275, if I remember
correctly. That’s a real deal, since a CD player would normally set you back
that much.
As for price, its hard to say. Go to http://www.carpoint.com, or http://www.autobytel.com
and you can find out exactly what invoice price for the cars and options are,
and even get free price qoutes from participating dealers. Car sales are
soft right now, so I wouldn’t be inclined to pay more than $500 over invoice.
Maxima sales are extremely slow. Nissan’s offering 1000 rebates on 99
Maxima’s, and dealers are dealing.

P.S. My wife and I decided they were all perfectly fine automotive
appliances, but there isn’t an ounce of excitement in any of them. Since we
were going to buy an appliance, we decided it might as well be a really
useful one, so we bought a Toyota minivan <g>.

Actually, it shares the entire platform. Take off the body panels (including
the welded ones, and you’ll find nothing different in the structure.
Different standard equipment, different interior styling, different suspension
calibrations. But basically the same car.

Hi,
I’m going thru the same process with the same cars. My personal opinion, go
with the Camry. I’m waiting for a XLE V-6 to arrive at my dealer. The V6
Camry shares many of the same components as the Lexus ES300. If you like
smooth and quiet cars the Lexus is top notch and the Camry is no slouch. I
was not impressed by the Accord, it handled very well but take it for a long
test drive on a highway with a concrete surface and judge for yourself. I
personally think it’s quite loud with far too much road noise for $22K. My
choices have come down to the Camry or the Maxima GLE. I like the GLE
because you get the automatic as standard equipment along with some other
goodies, most notably climate control and leather for a few grand more.
