98 Camry Transmission Shift

I own a 98 Camry XLE with 5K miles.   I have noticed that when the engine is
cold, the auto transmission does not shift to third (high) gear.  After a
quarter mile or so, shifting is normal.  Has anyone experienced this?  Is it
normal operation?

I could tell that you did not thoroughly raed your owners manual. It is
    explained in there.

Yes, it’s the computers way of warming up the engine faster…It delays the
shifting of the gears, and keeps the tranny outta overdrive.
