Hello All,
I own an 88 Chevy Nova with a "dohc" 1.6 engine. Has about 144k miles
on it. This little tin can has run very well for me.
Problem is this. I recently did a regular tune up and then a short
time later it started to stumble or accelerate very roughly between
800 and 2000 rpm.
At idle, runs fine. Above 2000 runs fine. Just that in-between place
is a problem.
Anyone have a similiar problem or any thoughts on this?

Sounds like secondary ignition, sometimes just removing the wires to
change plugs will send them over the edge, in other words, you probably
need new plug wires, unless you tune-up consisted of "Bosch Platinum
Plugs", if thats the case, toss them! Get some good ND’s!

Thanks for your suggestions.
I have replaced the plug wires with Napa’s. The plugs I replaced with
original ND’s. The problem remained.
A friend mentioned that the throttle body might need a cleaning. So, I
took it off, and yes it was quite dirty. Got it all cleaned up and
guess what? Now, a new problem popped up.
It idles cold at 3000 rpm and idles hot at 2500 rpm. Something is
telling the little computer to crank it up! A few mechanics in the
local area thought it could be the throttle positioner sensor. Hmmm.
My manual contains the values the "tps" should have but does not offer
a picture showing the labels of each electrical contact in the "tps"
so I’m unable to really test it.
I called the local Chevy dealer and they said they no longer my model.
Guess it was sort of an odd-ball model?
Any thoughts on where I might find a picture of the "tps" sensor that
labels the contacts (for as to test the little bugger)?
